Tours are available Monday through Friday beginning between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Tours are not available during the first full week of each month due to the Court being in session.

A standard tour is approximately three hours and includes two learning experiences, a meeting with a judge, and time for lunch. Trips can be shortened to accommodate scheduling needs. Please speak with a member of the Innovation Center staff to customize your visit.

Tours may only be scheduled for school groups. Our learning experiences are designed for high school students, but middle school teachers are welcome to schedule a visit as well.

We can accommodate a maximum of 40 visitors. This includes students and adults.

We require one chaperone per 20 students.

Our educational experiences are aligned to standards provided by OSSE, VDOE, MSDE, NCSS, and NGSS.

The National Courts Building is a secure facility. All visitors go through a security screening when they arrive. Court Security Officers will guide each group through a process similar to airport screening. Visitors walk through a metal detector, and officers screen bags and belongings using X-ray machines.

Students may bring small personal items that fit in their pockets, such as cell phones, headphones, or wallets. Backpacks, tote bags, water bottles, and other larger items are not permitted. Adults should limit what they bring to essential items only. Medical bags and other necessary belongings are allowed but will be subject to screening. All bags will be checked by Court Security Officers at the entrance.

Students may bring and use cell phones, but we ask that they keep them put away during learning experiences. This helps everyone stay focused and fully engaged.

Yes, we have space for students to eat lunch, but you must reserve it in advance. To request lunch space, please speak with a member of the Innovation Center staff when scheduling your visit. All lunches must be packed together in boxes or bags so they can go through security screening as a group.

Yes, photography is allowed during the visit. However, visitors may not take photos or video in the security screening area.

Yes, restrooms are available for visitors. However, the Innovation Center is located in a historic building with limited facilities. If possible, please plan restroom breaks before arriving. Large groups needing access may delay the start or end of your visit.
